View All Projects

Glenfernate Hydro Scheme is a 100kW scheme that was built on the side of the Glenfernate Reservoir, near Pitlochry.  The scheme was designed by Campbell of Doune and we were contracted to complete all Civil Engineering aspects of the scheme, which included:

  • Constructing the Waterside Intake complete with Header Tank.
  • Installing 1300 metres of 400mm diameter HDPE pipework and 70 metres of 400mm diameter ductile iron pipework, with 97 metres of head.
  • Construct the Powerhouse with slate roof and part stone clad, complete with Tailrace and Headwall.
  • Construct the reinforced concrete Pigging Chamber.

The scheme has been running extremely successfully for the client and is thought to continue to do so for many years.  The water is passed through a Tepasac Pelton Turbine, which generates the power for being sent back onto the National Grid.
