NEATY BURN HYDRO
View All ProjectsNeaty Burn Hydro Scheme is a 700kW scheme that was built on the Neaty Burn, near Struy, Beauly. Being Designed by Gilkes, we were contracted to complete all Civil Engineering aspects of the scheme, which included:
- Constructing the In-River Water Intake, complete with Header Tank.
- Installing 815 metres of 630mm HDPE pipework and 652 metres of 500mm diameter ductile iron pipework, with 200 metre head.
- Construct the Powerhouse, complete with Tailrace and Headwall.
- Construct the reinforced concrete Pigging Chamber.
The scheme has only just been completed but is already running well for the client and is expected to continue to do so for many years. The water is passed through a Gilkes Turbine, which generates the power for being sent back onto the National Grid.
