As a well-established civil engineering and groundworks specialist, our team at M.A.M Contracting has been working with clients across Scotland since 2004. We were recently engaged to deliver essential foundation works for a new solar farm at Standingfauld Farm, near Muthill.
While we had previously executed transformer bases on hydroelectric schemes, this marked our first foray into delivering foundations specifically for a solar farm. Our strong foundational expertise, bolstered by our multidisciplinary team’s skill set, made us an ideal fit for this project.
Primary objectives
The key objectives of the Standingfauld Farm in Muthill were to ensure the new solar installations had the best possible foundations. This included:
The core objective for the project was to utilise our two decades of experience in delivering premium civil engineering and groundworks projects to ensure robust and reliable foundations for the solar farm array.
Time was also very much of the essence, which meant another core objective was to deliver and respond swiftly to the client. This meant utilising our extensive resource network, welding reinforcements off-site and expediting on-site mobilisation.
Finally, despite the need for urgency, it was vital to maintain professionalism and quality throughout, ensuring the project was completed to the highest standards within a tight timeframe.
Challenges faced
The Standingfauld Solar Farm project posed a number of challenges. Although our team is highly experienced with transformer bases in hydro schemes, executing foundations for a solar farm presented a new application of our core skills.
It also required us to expedite reinforcement preparation, logistics and construction. This meant the project needed us to implement exceptional coordination and responsiveness throughout to ensure it was delivered on time and to the client’s specifications.
Finally, despite the pressure and challenges, it was essential that our M.A.M. Contracting team upheld the professionalism and workmanship that we have become synonymous with.
How M.A.M. Contracting completed the works
In order to overcome these challenges and give the client the very best results possible, we followed several key steps.
Off-site preparation
Under pressure to deliver swiftly, we welded the reinforcing steel for the foundations in our yard. This off-site preparation clarified logistics and accelerated installation schedules.
Efficient site mobilisation
Armed with ready-fabricated components, we swiftly transported plant and materials to the Standingfauld site, ensuring minimal delay.
Skilled formwork implementation
Our dependable formwork team brought the project to fruition, constructing robust and accurate foundation forms with precision and professionalism.
Strict adherence to standards
Throughout, our team applied the same rigorous standards and professionalism that define our reputation across groundworks projects.
The benefits
The Standingfauld Solar Farm project highlighted M.A.M Contracting’s ability to deliver under significant time pressure. Our rapid response, combined with efficient preparation and prefabrication, ensured the works were completed within the urgent timeframe and fully aligned with the client’s critical schedule. Even though this was our first solar-farm project, the finished result upheld the same high standards of workmanship and professionalism that define our approach across all sectors.
Equally, the project demonstrated our adaptability in applying existing skills to new challenges. By transferring our expertise in hydro-scheme transformer bases to solar infrastructure, we showcased both versatility and innovation in the renewable energy sector. This successful delivery not only strengthened the immediate project outcome but also reinforced client confidence in M.A.M Contracting as a trusted, solution-focused partner for complex civil engineering works across Scotland.
